It's been a rollercoaster twelve months for the Girls Aloud beauty, who has seen her acting career take off, but her relationship flounder.
She filmed her first feature length film, Brit flick Run For Your Wife, alongside Danny Dyer and Denise van Outen.
But she also called off her engagement to DJ Tom Crane, and was forced to cancel their planned summer wedding.
Sources close to the star, who was recently admitted to a US rehab clinic to battle alcohol addiction and depression, said she spent her birthday alone in a hotel room.
She opted for some time by herself so she could come to terms with the last twelve months and the death of her relationship of four years.
'Sarah has had a tough year but she is a strong girl who is back on the mend,' a friend said.
Her Girls Aloud bandmates were politely told 'thanks but no thanks' when they offered to visit her, so instead took to Twitter to send their best wishes.
Cheryl Cole said: 'Happy Birthday Harding.. Love you babe.. !! Xx', while Nicola Roberts said, 'It’s our girl’s big day.. Happy Birthday Sarah.. Love u x'
Amazingly, even Nadine Coyle got sentimental, saying: 'Happy GAs first 30th birthday Sarah Harding. I remember your 21st in the popstars house. Wow.. Sending loads of love x'
Sarah was expected to celebrate her milestone birthday with a joint party with Kimberley Walsh at a fancy West End club, however she feels unprepared for such a pressured social occasion.
The friend added to the Mirror: 'She has just left a rehab facility and did not feel ready to fly back to London to party – and she had to say no to people flying over to see her as well.
'She is using the time to recuperate and reflect by herself. It just goes to show how far she has come and is determined to change her life for the better.
'She had also been looking forward to planning her wedding next year but now she is adapting to life as a single girl.'
The singer is expected to fly home in a few weeks, and will probably hold a small, belated tea party to mark her birthday.
