Shane Warne has described his proposal to Liz Hurley as "very romantic".The Australian former cricketer, who announced his engagement to model and actress Hurley yesterday, confirmed that he did get down on one knee but denied that he did it in front of a crowd of onlookers.Warne wrote on his Twitter page: "I didn't propose in front of 200 people at dinner. It was done privately and was very romantic - if I say so myself. PS left knee is sore! Thanks so much again for all your kind messages, they mean a lot... EH and I very happy and have had a beautiful lazy day today."Hurley also thanked well wishers, tweeting: "Thanks again for all your lovely messages. Means a lot to us."
The sports star's family, however, said that they have not received a phone call from him to confirm the news. "I haven't spoken to him so I don't know," Warne's brother Jason said.
Warne's father Keith added: "It sounds like [they are engaged], but... I haven't had any calls yet."
The couple were rumoured to have become engaged in August, but Warne denied the reports, insisting that he would let the public know if there was an important "announcement" to make.
Warne and Hurley were first romantically linked in December last year after he split from wife Simone Callahan and Hurley ended her four-year marriage to Arun Nayar.
