SLASH IN PARADISE

GUITAR hero Slash has promised to take Scottish fans to  Paradise City when he plays his first T In The Park today.

The mop-haired Guns N’ Roses icon may be a festival veteran but has never rocked Balado’s historic airfield.

Slash, 45, told me: “It’s the first time here.

“Everybody in Scotland is gassed about it and really excited so I know it’s a pretty good festival.”

The LA hero loves playing gigs in the UK because we still embody the true spirit of rock ’n’ roll. He explained: “The last vestige of rock ’n’ roll has to be alive and well at UK rock festivals.

“Sometimes you think that rock ’n’ roll is dying a miserable death, especially if you listen to the radio.

“But then you go to these festivals and the spirit and energy of the whole thing is overwhelming. It’s the industry killing it, not the public.”

The British-born guitarist joins an astounding line-up that includesColdplay, Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters.

Then he embarks on a UK tour this month that takes in his childhood home of Stoke-on-Trent and London’s High Voltage festival.

Despite endless questions about Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver, Slash is focused on his solo career.

He revealed: “I’m recording new material for myself. and I’m working with the band that I’m touring with because they are so hot.

“We’re no nearer to getting a new Velvet Revolver vocalist.”

Glad somebody is keeping rock alive and kicking.
